Hi, I'm Helena "Ellie" Huizenga, a writer, editor, and journalist whose reporting and essays have appeared in Sierra Magazine, Earth Island Journal, The Salt Lake Tribune, Business Insider, and Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine.

Before going freelance, I spent four years on Zapier's editorial team, working my way up from writer to content manager, and learning how to turn complicated topics into engaging, easy-to-understand stories. Now I put that experience to work as editorial manager of the Mystro newsletter and as a writer for teams like Circle. I'm also pursuing my MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults at Hamline University, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about the stories we tell our kids and the world we're handing them.

I've never been very good at sitting still. In the last decade, I've moved to three cities, lived in a van for nearly a year, had two boys, left a comfortable corporate job, and gone back to school. I used to think all that restlessness was a character flaw. And in many ways it is. But it's also why I ask questions, chase new experiences, and let myself be uncomfortable. I write about the environment and motherhood not because I have it figured out, but because I definitely, in fact, do not.
